Mountain Drawn

by George Korper

Even as a little child I felt called to the mountain chain that runs like Mother Earth’s
spine from Maine to Georgia. I felt her call in the Virginia countryside, when in the fifties
my mother drove my brother and me along the new mountain road called the Skyline
Drive.

Mountains speak to our unconscious self in voices that ring with the vibrations of their
crystalline rocks. When I told my parents I could hear these voices, my parents smiled
and thought I would outgrow it. Thankfully I haven’t outgrown it and I still hear these
melodies singing like the sea chantey named “Shenandoah” saying, “Away you rolling
river.” These mountains sing to our hearts. I know I am sappy like the mountain trees but
the mountains also bring hardness and flexibility that can be found in very few places this
far from the sea –– a remnant of the life they lived before being thrust up from the ancient
seabed.

I feel the mountains called me, and most of the people living here feel the same way. We
gather here to be part of them and to join together in sharing these feelings. The mountain
gives us tasks and for me discovering this task was paramount in my decision to move
here. Leaving the hectic pace of Washington, DC, was not difficult but knowing where to
go was more so. My wife, Sundra, suggested we consult an astrologer we found on the
web who happened to be located in Asheville, Randy Spiers, and luckily both our Vedic
charts showed signs of Asheville being well suited to creative and harmonious living for
us. The decision was made and we moved from a suburban development to the city of
Hendersonville. We both feel at home now and live only two blocks from Thomas
Wolfe’s angel, a constant reminder for me of the importance of literature to the soul.
Look Homeward Angel steered me toward Asheville ––he left big shoes to fill.
Sundra is pursuing her energy healing work, and I have written a book about a psychic
detective, Joseph Libre, who discovers that in this life’s work he must unravel the
mysterious world of Skull and Bones, Yale and the Illuminati. Joe and his associates
learn a great deal in the Great Smoky Mountains and with the help of spirit guides
develop a method of visualizing the world of the unconscious that leads them to solve the
crime graphically and change the course of the nation. The book is titled I Am The Yale.
It is a blessing living here, and I look forward to meeting other people who feel the same
way.
